Grow is an entirely digital SMSF administration provider. From setup to ongoing compliance, our team and clients are comfortable working in a paperless environment.
Grow focuses on younger, ambitious wealth accumulator clients. Less than 10% of our clients are in the pension phase. This focus enables us to deliver a high-quality SMSF solution very efficiently.
We work directly with SMSF trustees, and although financial advisers and other accountants may refer clients to us, we don’t specifically cater to other professionals. Most of our clients find us organically, meaning we are not dependent on any one source of new business, which helps ensure our continued growth.
Our clients are evenly split across assets such as shares/ETFs (ASX + US), direct property, and crypto. Almost all our clients use the same cash accounts (Macquarie, ANZ V2 PLUS).
Most share/ETF investors are split between a few popular brokers and, likewise, our crypto investors. Again, this commonality enables an efficient approach to completing SMSF accounts with enough variety to ensure the work doesn’t get stale.
We’ve also have a modern and bespoke client portal which has added another layer of efficiency to our business and means less time chasing clients for documents and information and more time getting work done.
About the Position
This role involves completing some SMSF accounts yourself and reviewing the work of at least one intermediate accountant who will have a larger number of SMSF accounts to prepare.
You will be responsible for a portfolio of SMSF clients and must ensure the annual SMSF accounts are completed in alignment with our quality control processes and lodgement program.
Responsibilities include:
The main KPI we track is completed jobs for you and any other SMSF accountants you oversee. This number will depend on your capacity and expected remuneration.
Where required, Grow will provide and secure suitable computer equipment. Candidates must provide their own screens. Multiple screens are essential (salary sacrifice options are available).
Career advancement options for this role include progression to an SMSF Account Manager position.
About You
You must be competent and experienced in preparing SMSF accounts and have previously worked in a similar senior SMSF accountant role. On average, our senior SMSF accountants have more than 10 years of experience.
You must have multiple years of experience using Class Super or SuperMate. BGL experience is less relevant. We don’t use BGL and do not plan on using it now.
The more funds you’ve looked after, the better.
Formal qualifications (CPA/CA) are not required, but they are favourably considered. Specialised experience and a genuine passion for SMSFs are essential.
The ability to plan your work and execute it is essential. Although you will have access to procedural and technical support, you must be able to work independently.
You must be competent in all aspects of SMSF administration including:
Strong computer skills are essential, especially in Excel/Google Sheets. If you need help with your formulas, no judgment if you use ChatGPT—in fact, it’s encouraged!
This role provides flexibility and would suit someone who is performance driven, wants to complete valuable work that fits into their life, rather than their life needing to fit into their work schedule.

We have incorporated AI into many parts of our business; however, our customers still desire to speak to a human before using Grow’s services.

The role will initially be an in-office role on the Gold Coast to enable intensive role-specific training, but you have the option of transitioning to a remote support role. Success will depend on your performance and ability to work unsupervised after you complete your training.

This role is a senior position in the organisation, reporting directly to the CEO. You will also work closely with our SMSF accounting production manager (they are responsible for productivity and lodgement KPIs).

About you
You will have significant experience in large SMSF accounting divisions or within a specialist SMSF administration business. You likely will have SMSF accounting experience.
Your communication skills must be superb. You will need to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) to anyone, from a new SMSF trustee just starting their journey to an experienced SMSF accountant with over 10 years of experience.
As this role is remote, you can be based anywhere in Australia, but you must be comfortable working and developing relationships with the team via electronic channels. Being good with technology and having experience with SMSF accounting platforms like Class, SuperMate and BGL is also essential.
You must be practical, results-orientated and not afraid to get your hands dirty.
Previous experience in a similar role is essential, and specialist SMSF qualifications are highly desirable.
